  1. Family update: gratitude, privacy, and case status

    Greetings, everyone.

    First, we would like to sincerely thank each and every one of you for the support you have provided in so many ways: financial contributions, providing meals, checking in on Maureen’s family, contacting our elected representatives, praying, and continuing to share the support links and information about Maureen and her family.

    As we express our appreciation, we are also mindful of the sensitive nature of the process and the need to respect Maureen and her family’s privacy and dignity. With that in mind, we would like to share the following updates:

    1. Maureen remains detained. She has retained immigration attorneys who are handling all legal matters, and actively working on her case.

    2. As previously communicated, the family has formally asked ICE to release Maureen so that she can return to her husband and children.

    3. The matter remains active, and no final outcome has been reached.

    4. We will continue providing verified updates as they become available.

  2. Attorneys continue to seek immediate release

    Maureen remains wrongfully detained at Richwood. Her family asks for help with legal, travel, advocacy, and family-support costs while they fight to bring her home.

  3. Held at Richwood Detention Center in Monroe, Louisiana

    Maureen is held at Richwood Detention Center in Monroe, Louisiana, nearly 2,000 miles from her home and family in Concord, California. Her attorneys seek her immediate release.

  4. Last-minute halt to a deportation flight

    Maureen is driven to an airport to be flown to an unnamed country. A last-minute deportation halt returns her to custody instead of removing her from the United States.

  5. Transfers begin across detention centers

    In the days that follow, Maureen is transferred through detention centers in California, Arizona, and Louisiana. Her family reports that she slept on floors, and that her ID, phone, and wallet were lost in transit.

  6. Maureen is wrongfully detained in San Francisco

    At a mandated appointment at the San Francisco ICE office, Maureen Wanjiru Ngure is wrongfully detained and served a third-country deportation order. She is a Concord nurse, wife, and mother of two. Her husband and children are U.S. citizens.
